I also got my return shipping label yesterday. Maybe they finally got their system problems resolved.

they've been doing the CLP for 7 years with different camera bodies.

SLRs are only for the past 2 years or less, with only XS at first, then 50Ds, then these.

5D3 and a few lens

Crazy that you have to return a Canon product to be considered "loyal" by them! One glance at my various camera bags will show that I have almost 20 Canon products including four cameras, plus lenses and flashes. I look after my gear and everything is working properly and is in use - there's nothing I want to "throw away". I would have thought that was TRUE Canon loyalty!

Crazy also that there appears to be absolutely nothing published by Canon about this. They seem to depend totally on word-of-mouth.

5D & 7D (both gripped), 24-105L, 100-400L, 15-85, 50 f1.8, Tamron 28-75, Sigma 12-24, G10, EX-Z55 & U/W housing, A1+10 lenses, tripods, lighting gear, etc. etc.

Dude,
It is not crazy...it is just called Canon Loyalty Program...no matter if you owned the Canon equipment for 1 day or 100 years. It is nice for them to offer this, and no, they do not have to advertise it, IMO. I believe it was for ways for Canon to keep their customer, when they call in for a service/repair, then offer this. This topic got real traction, when they started to offer 7D, and especially 5DMKii. It wasn't too long ago they started to offer DSLRs.

Loyal...well, its not the word that is used by Large Corporations, as tough times hits, it is those (typically) who has been LOYAL to the company who gets the boot first.

Just take the program at its face value. I don't hear Nikon having any similar program like what Canon is doing.

Just my 2 cents.

Well, it means that I as a careful user can't take advantage of the program. I would have thought I've demonstrated my loyalty to the brand.....

Just visit this website - e b a y

Then, search for "canon parts" "canon as is"...and pick up a broken p&s camera for about $10-12 shipped.

Use that as your trade in.

You are loyal canon person, and should be able to either keep all your working equipment. All you will spending will be to buy the broken p&s.

On the other hand...man, since 5D MKii is not available, I am seriously thinking about picking up 7D and lens with the money saved.

I know both are great camera (with pros and cons of each)...I was looking at 7D picture thread, and there are some great pics there.

What to do, what to do??????

The loyalty program is nothing more than a "recycle your old broken camera for a 20% discount off refurb prices".

and Nikon does not offer a similar program. So it is nice of Canon to offer this program.

I spent $8 on a broken P&S, and saved $400 ($1,999 to $1,599) on the 5D II. I call that a deal :-)

perhaps they do not advertise it because of what has happened now....where EVERYONE wants to take part in it. might be why they discontinued the 5D II from the program.

who knows...

I think you're missing the point. From what I've gathered while following the discussions on various forums, the purpose of this program is for those who's cameras broke and its too old or costly to fix while being out of warranty, at which time Canon would offer you the option to trade in the broke camera for a newer refurb model at a discounted price, if you wished to continue to stick with the Canon brand for your next purchase, instead of giving up on Canon and buying a competitor's brand. That's where the Loyalty part comes in.

I believe in the early days of the program you had to speak to the repair department first. The repair tech would at some point suggest the CLP as an option and then if you were interested they would transfer you to a CLP rep who can tell you which model you can buy based upon the model you would trade in. If you read the other threads online (see links in 1st post) from years ago you would notice only certain refurb models were offered depending which model was being traded in. More recently they opened all refurbed models for purchase, no matter how old the model is that's being traded in, so an old P&S was opened up to buy the higher end DSLRs.

The program has been around a very long time and changes enough. This week they're letting you trade a P&S for a 7D. Next week they could go back to the old way of doing things. Or they can kill the program entirely. Who knows!

When are they open? They are open 7 days a week. Phone lines are answered from 8:00AM to Midnight Eastern.Smacatl

Well, they were closed yesterday, Sunday Nov. 21. I guess things do change, perhaps folks taking a Thanksgiving week vacation.

Will give them another try this morning.

Just double checked with CLP - still 8AM to Midnight 7 days a week.

Maybe they were on a break when you called, or the lines were all tied up.
Either way, they are open this morning

Good luck!
