this tripod works ok, but isn't all that stable if you use any heavy lenses. excellent at 25 dollars shipped though! mine is sitting on a shelf at home

Couldn't agree more. I have this tripod also, and for the price I bought it at ($46), it was a steal for what it delivers.

The only problem I have is when I tilt the angle of the ballhead down (I do product photography a lot) and the ballhead flexes/tilts, so I have to set it higher than how I want the it in the frame in order to compensate for the droop.

But for normal, pointing forward shooting, this tripod is awesome!

Would this work well for a speedlight stand?

It doesn't go nearly as high as a basic lightstand would. I would have to say no.

This is a great deal... I have had one for almost a yr and its holding up pretty great. I just put a manfrotto grip ball head on it and now its awesome.

I have this tripod, it's easily worth twice that. In fact, I think I paid $46 for mine.

Awesome buy.

So do you feel pretty confident when you mount your 1D bodies on this tripod and head combination? Some of the reviews on newegg question the stability when a heavy body and lens are mounted on this. I just picked up a used manfrotto tripod and this looks tempting to buy just for the ball head and to have a back up tripod.

I guess it depends how you define "stable". It's not going to tip over and it's rated at like 13lbs. However, the ability to keep the camera completely steady goes down with longer lenses. There is a hook to hang your bag from on the bottom which helps. I personally would feel comfortable using any SLR on this pod, but I would not use a lens bigger or heavier than say a 70-200 F4. There is also the issue mentioned above with heaver setups sagging a bit on the head. You kind have to frame a little high.

I had my 7D gripped with 100-400L on this tripod last July 4th firework shoot... no problem.

Thanks for chiming in with that mello. I placed an order for one last night. I guess if I end up not liking it for some reason then I'll just wrap it up and give to my sister for Christmas. I'm sure it'll be fine for her xsi if I pass it on to her.

What is the stability issue? Like the $$$ but not if it is not stable. See my sig for my set up

great find OP! friend got one for 20 off craigslist once. 25 for brand new is sweet!

i've had my 7D with a 70-200 and flash on top. it is stable. not rock solid...but enough so that u wont be too scared to mount them.

i directly compared it to the 190 proxb from manfrotto. it is not nearly as stable of course, but comparable.

I would think this would be no problem for t2i with either an 18-55 or a 55-250, right?
