Hi guys...

Am confused .. which one would u select :D
Tamron AF 70-200mm f2.8 or Canon 70-200 4.0L.
My doubt is whether the 'L' cannot be compared with the additional one stop of tamron.

Also 1 more question.. Whats the best place to buy a Lens in the US, especially with thanks giving around the corner. Do they actually come up with good rebates every year or i shouldn't be expecting too much!!!!

Thanks
Vinod

I would say the Canon 70-200mm f4.0L because Canons l series is the best of the best and the glass and focusing will be much more worth it even though of the stop difference.

Canon Rebel XSi - Canon 85 1.8 - Canon 18-55 - Canon 75-300 - Sigma 530 flash - Canon 50 1.8

Optics wise, I might even put the Tamron slightly ahead of the Canon. AF wise, the Canon is much more sure, silent and quick. Decide based on AF speed needs and also weight and size of the lenses.

I don't think I would call the AF "horribly slow" just not up to par for Ring USM L lenses.

There is at least one person here who shoots sports with his Tamron 70-200/2.8 and says the AF is fast enough.

Weigh up your usage and whether you would benefit from faster AF (eg fast sports) or an extra stop. Also what is the price difference?

I bought the Tamron as it was £50 cheaper than the Canon F4 non IS at the time, (both lenses new and best prices for UK stock, not grey import), and I feel the extra stop to be more beneficial for my uses. I don't shoot sports, but wanted to use it as a general zoom and also for wildlife with a TC, and have excellent results with the 1.4x Tc.

Take a look at this thread for loads of sample photos:
