I thought I'd check in here for a quick fix if possible. It seems it doesn't want to recognize the memory card. I've tried three different ones. No go. I just get the "NO CARD" sign. Are the any combinations of buttons to press for a reboot of sorts?

Thanks

don't know about a reboot but try formatting a card in the computer then put it in the camera

Good idea. I just tried that after reading your post. I really couldn't see much. But what I could see looked OK to me. Though I don't know what they're supposed to look like.
Anyway I just took it to Penn Camera. Looks like it gonna be $250 smackers and 8 weeks. Oy

they're supposed to look like a bunch of tiny straight pins. If you see a bent one...that's not what they're supposed to look like ;)

XSi takes SD, not CF, memory cards, so a bent pin is very unlikely.

A last hope...

Whenever I have camera problems, I take both batteries out of the camera, let it sit for a few minutes and then replace the batteries, turn on the camera; cross my fingers and hope. If it doesn't work, it hasn't cost any money and very little labor...

maybe blow a few quick shots of compressed air in the memory slot? Could be a particle in there - hold it upside down if you do it to let gravity have its way...
Don't hold it too long so as the cold liquid comes out.

helped me once in a P&S

3, and the guy behind the counter at Penn tried 2. Same result. Oh well, nothing left but the waiting and paying at this point.

Thanks for the suggestions guys

@R1200GS, if your budget permits, instead of putting up 250 for an XSI repair, you can use it for the Canon Loyalty program and get 20% off a refub body.
They do carry XSIs also for about 400, so for about 150 more, you would get a kit. Sell 18-55IS off and u r still only about 50 down for a newer camera.

AND....you will get it a lot faster! This is good advice!

these were the prices as of Mid-October. I don't think they've changed much.

I'd maybe hold onto your XSi just in case it decides to start working again or can find a cheaper repair service. you can go and buy a broken P&S film or digital Canon camera from eBay and turn it in for the discount.

Canon XS - $319.99
Canon XS with 18-55 Kit Lens - $399.99
Canon T1i - $415.99
Canon T1i with 18-55 Kit Lens - $479.99
Canon 40D - $559.20
Canon 40D with 28-135 Kit Lens - $719.20
Canon 50D - $719.20
Canon 50D with 28-135 Kit Lens - $839.20
Canon 7D - $1,087.20
Canon 5D Mark II - $1,599.20 (Removed from Program November 1, 2010)
You will be charged state sales tax for the state your credit card is issued
