Interestingly, not too many months back Canon NZ had surplus stock of the 400 f/2.8 and they needed them shifted and were offering healthy discounts of normal prices to retailers. Made something bonkers expensive just marginally insane basically...

Awwwww CRAP!!! Where was I hiding then I wonder :(

Although I guess putting a 2xMKII onto the 70-200 2.8 MKII is going to give a very similar result.

Noticeable difference. We had a guy buy both lenses and try a 2xTC on the 70-200. Basically the 100-400 was better.

Was somewhere around the time your stuff was being calibrated from memory... Didn't think dropping $10k+ at that point would have been an appreciated suggestion... ;)

Cheers, Dave.

2.0 on the 70-200 cuts down af speed by 75% :(

Prehaps the mkIII tc's will be better , the 2.0 looks better than the 1.4

On canonrumors it mentions that there was a slip up in a canon event in London at the end of Oct, and it got mentioned that the 100-400mkII would be a 2011 lens. Of course, until I see an official press release on canons website, I'll take the reports with a grain of salt, given how long the mkII has been rumored for. That said - in the US at the moment there are the fall rebates on lenses, which include the 100-400 (US$100 off) - so perhaps trying to clear some of the stock.

At least I'm not in the position of 'do I buy now or wait' that others are.

Daniel

The 2xTC was NEVER designed to be used on anything but the BIG whites. When will people learn that.

I'm in no rush, just the only real thing missing from my kit, be nice to tick it off before the end of the tax year :)

In other news, my passion for doing model photography has definitely takena downturn, had a shoot yesterday and I can tell instantly my passion just was'nt there. I guess its been a very rough year for us so can be expected but alot of it is the time it takes to arrange the shoots and then the PP afterwards, I just don't have the time to dedicate anymore. I won't do anything rash just yet but the thought has been there for sometime now to sell off the studio gear etc :| Also need the room for stock these days too .... *sigh*
