So, my Xbox of 4 years finally crapped out on me. I have the three red blinking lights. Microsoft wants to charge me $100 + shipping to have it repaired.

I just want to sell it on eBay. How can I wipe the hard drive before selling it?

Don't know anyone else with an Xbox?

If not, you can always go and take the hard drive out of the enclosure and connect it to your computer. http://www.pcworld.com …d_drive_on_the_cheap.html (external link)

If you do it the 2nd way, you'll need a program to format the drive with or I don't believe the Xbox will recognize the drive after.

Safest way is to find a friend with an xbox you can drop your drive into.

I can't help with how to wipe the drive but I can tell you this is the reason I finally got a PS3. I had 3 XBOXs that got the RROD, all under warranty. I kept trading them in towards new ones. The third one failed and I had enough. Had my PS3 for 4 years or so and not one problem, knock on wood. Plus I didn't have to rush out and buy a BR player since the PS3 doubles as one.
