One of the photos I submitted into the 2010 National Geographic Photo Contest was chosen to move on to the next round of judging.

"Growing Concerns"
California State Route 14 - Los Angeles light pollution "glow" viewed from roughly 100 miles away in the vicinity of Mojave, CA. Light trails are from a single big rig heading Southbound CA-14. The Milky Way competes to remain radiant above its growing adversary while stars trail with the Earth's rotation. With the continuing expansion of Los Angeles and its ever growing light pollution, the visibility of Milky Way will be further limited to the unaided eye.

Every vote counts! Much obliged!:grin:http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com …ate/nature-week-8/#/12307 (external link)

Amazing shot. Wow, though, you have that kind of light pollution on such a clear night and from that distance?! Definitley want to visit SoCal some day, as I have no frame of reference except comparing to my city where light glow occurs about 20 miles away on overcast skies.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

ohhh yeahhh. it's pretty nasty. :( Mojave itself is on the cusp of the light pollution zone.

Here's a dark sky map for reference(Look for Los Angeles and then locate Mojave above it):

Great shot; I rated your shot a ten. I hope that was a vote counted? Good luck.

Seems like the voting is still on! Thought it'd end when submissions end. Seems like it'll be going until Dec 15th.
