pocket wizards are overrated. besides, Victor wants to buy, not rent.

i use the cybersyncs (CST and CSRB) and i am very happy with them. Nick had cybersyncs too before he bought pocket wizards because of peer pressure.

Victor, for a 1dm3 with 430ex, you have the following options:
- buy a RF transmitter/receiver pair. the ones from BH look ok, i have no data regarding reliability, but you can return them if they are bad.
- buy a cheap vivitar flash and an optical slave for the 430ex such as http://www.flashzebra.com/products/0118/index.shtml (external link) (with the hotshoe adapter)
- buy a used ST-E2 IR flash commander (about 130$)

i could lend you a CST/CSRB pair, with needed cables, if you want - just tell me how long do you need them.

Thanks mihait. I really want one to see how it is. If anything, I can always return it.

Maybe Nick can answer this....:) I am looking for a set of remote triggers for my flash. Just one flash. I don't want to go too cheap and having the receiver breaking off from the light stand. I got interested in the Impact Powersync 10 unit. One thing I am not too clear on it is that can the transceiver "alone" trigger my 430ex? Do I also need the receiver too?

Looks like you already got the information you need.

Do you want to retain ETTL capability or are you OK with manual flash? I've heard/read ETTL over radio is iffy. Pocket Wizard has these triggers as well as Radio Poppers.

If you do not require ETTL and are OK with manual flash, then a nice and cheap option would be the CyberSyncs. You will need a transmitter and receiver unit. The Transmitter goes on the hotshoe on your camera or you can connect via PC Sync cable. The receiver of course plugs in to your flash either via PC Sync cable or the adapter that Mihait linked.

Thanks Nick. Manual flash is fine by me. I got the Interfit $60 model. It works. If you fire the next shot too soon, the flash would have problem syncing with the camera and you get the flash clipping effect. I have another problem now. Do you know how to increase the light volume in a room with a dinning table seating for 5 people? On Thanksgiving, I was getting some uneven light intensity (flash light falls out) when trying to light up the table. Subjects closer to the flash would appear brighter than the subjects away from it. I bounced the flash off the ceiling and tried to match both flash and ambient exposures the same. I added a gold diffuser too. I think I may need to put another flash at the other end. Maybe even use some umbrellas to get some even light across the table.

you're being affected by the "inverse square law" - check these articles:

http://strobist.blogspot.com …12-position-distance.html (external link)
http://www.scantips.com/lights/flashbasics.html#1 (external link)

to get even light exposure in your scenario, you either need more lights (to even out the falloff), or a much bigger light source.

bouncing off ceiling can work, depending on where you put the flash (i.e. somewhere where it can be at the same distance from all the subjects), but sometimes it's just impractical with large groups.

L.E. this article has some graphic representation of the inverse square law: http://lightenupandshoot.net …ew=article&id=5&Itemid=31 (external link)
