Has anyone in Australia ever purchased a pelican case from the US? Just wondering if these goods are subject to import duty, its below $1000 so I assume GST does not apply but as it is not really a photographic item it may be subject to duty. Any advice welcome

In my experience. As long as the item regardless of what it is (other than alcohol or smokes) is below $1000AU in value you wont have to pay customs duty or GST.

I have purchased a bunch of different things from B&H in recent months. Anything below that $1000 limit has been fine.

An email to B&H or a phone call will solve the problem. Just check on the shipping charges, which may be as much as the case. But I know several people in SA and Istanbul that shop by UPS with B&H.

I think the shipping charges are through the roof for such large item. But it could be worth it.

Yes the shipping is equal to the cost of the product but even after that the total cost is still about 25% cheaper than a local purchase

I bought my 1624 recently from an Oz supplier. After I did the calcs it was going to be close in price. From memory, I think the $1,000 rule is the only one you need to worry about. As long as it is under $1,000 (goods and shipping costs etc) there won't be any duty or fees payable.
