Hey guys,

I just got Photoshop CS5, but I'm really having trouble with textures. I've searched for tutorials online, but none of them are very helpful. Naturally, I'm now turning to POTN for some advice. I know where to find and download textures. My problem is figuring out what to do with the texture files and how to incorporate them into my photos. Can anyone list the steps for using textures with CS5 or provide a link with a tutorial/some instructions? I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Also, if you have any textures you'd like to recommend, I'm open to suggestions.

What kind of texture in what image? You need to post a photo.

I was thinking of using a texture similar to the one in this tutorial (external link).

Experiment with putting textures over and under your images and then try the different blend modes and see what you get.

Toss in gradients and curves and the possibilities are nearly endless.

Probably staing the obvious here but i think this is what you want.

open the the texture file, copy texture, close texture file, paste it in the photofile you want to use.

Some free transform will be needed to resize the texture so it fits onto your photo.

then as jay says above play around with layer styles and oppacity. i use a layer mask so my subjects are not totaly obscured by the texture. i use 2 to 3 textures at a time with the steps ive mentioned.
