Thats alot going through your speedlight.. remember, thats 1.6 per cell. So the engineer on Amazon said it was actually 1.85x4=7.4.. Speedlight is expecting 6v. That's 1 additional cell!!

Nov 29, 2010 08:10 | #19 klr.b wrote in post #11360163 ![]() John (JC4), there's been a few warnings against using these in flashes in the lighting forum. Thanks for trying to review these, but I wish you searched first. Some people have had success in using these in external battery packs, but don't put them in the body of your expensive flashes. Glad to see that you're still covered under warranty. It was "just" batteries, so I didn't give it a lot of thought. The 1.6 claimed volts brought it back to about Alkaline levels, and I guessed there'd be a drop in available current, so I also assumed they wouldn't perform as well as NiMh, in a speedlite. That's why, for $10, I didn't bother with any research. And, why I was blown away by the performance increase. Never thought they'd perform like that, but when they did, my mistake was not immediately thinking how demanding it was on the speedlite. Measure an Alkaline sometime, its about 1.6v unloaded, so I assumed(mistake), the Zn's were just getting back to Alkaline voltage. It was a simple $200+ mistake. John Caputo

It doesn't make me look bad. It's one of those simple mistakes that any one of us could have made, including those who laugh now but may cry later. I admire your guts in posting this. It'd serve as a money-saving warning to others.

Well, I got lucky, and/or Canon felt generous. I just received notice my flash is on its way back home, from CPS service. They never called me for an estimate, so it was a no charge repair. Thought for sure they'd label this user error.(yes I mentioned the Zn batteries). ben_r_ wrote: Eneloops work, well, leave well enough alone. Really ben? In a gear forum, with mostly men? As a species, we're not that bright, and may never learn this lesson. John Caputo

My flash was once dropped on a concrete floor, yet Canon fixed it for me free of charge AND sent it back to me via 2-day FedEx. Glad all turned out well for you.
