Just bought my 50D about a week ago. :DThought everything was peachy...until I showed up at a Wedding gig to find that my new 50D is not firing my 580EX flash. :cry:Lucky I had my 30D in my bag. Any suggestions on a solution would be greatly appreciated!!

Does the pop up flash work on the 50D ?

Maybe you disabled both the onboard and external flash, via the 50D menu settings (spanner no.3), under "flash control"

Same here. From time to time refuses to fire the flash.
Must be bat internal contact.
I noticed that when I wiggle the flash the contact (sometimes) comes back to life.
Very annoying indeed!

Greetings, Alain

My pop-up flash works fine and I have cleared all my custom functions. When I attache my flash, it reverts to TTL instead of ETTL. I have tried to go to flash control menu and the camera indicates that the flash is not present. Im beginning to think that the camera does not recognize the flash???? Any suggestions????

Thats an indicator that there is a connection issue.

Yeah, if you cleared the custom functions, then it's hardware related like connection as stated above.
