I wouldnt let a 18-135 near my 7D!

go on, if all you had was coke bottles, you'd be bolting them up...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Canon bodies only have a national warranty, so if anything goes wrong you'll have to send it to Hong Hong. Canon NZ sometimes refuses to service bodies bought in other countries. Lenses are generally fine though, they have an international warranty.

Largely correct. If the item (traced via serial number) is deemed to have come from a grey import it'll not be warranted here. If it's deemed to have come from a dodgier source you won't see it again. (It has happened.) Lenses too now are being affected, as overseas lenses are tracked where they were supplied to as well. There's no clear terms as to who overseas they'll wear the lens coming from, I should imagine B&H would be fine, but Pablo's cameras in Brazil would probably get you a warranty claim on a lens refused here too.

And it's not just Canon, Nikon, Sony and to a certain extent Panasonic are all wary of stock from outside NZ. In Canon's case, Canon NZ is a seperate business, and although obviously heavily linked to Canon HQ and Oz, has to account for its own monies, which isn't easy to do when people are selling stuff cheap playing the exchange rates game...

For reference however, I couldn't possibly comment on these guys clicky (external link) other than to say they're p!ssing everyone off by selling at prices which will probably see him go bust if he carries on. It's NZ stock...

Harsh, as the lens does have a very useful focal length, but yeah it's a bit sh!t. 15-85 for a kit lens all the way...

My old 70-200 from the US was fixed under warranty here, but the 20D from parallel imported was turned away. Fair enough I guess.

If anything I think Nikon are more strict about it, especially since they don't really operate in NZ themselves.

The lens is a quiet recent thing I think...

Fortunately I only currently own one thing under a warranty and it's NZ stock! :p

There is quite a bit of recourse under the consumer guarantees act though.
I know Sony among others have been forced to fix parallel imported gear. Regardless of the companies structure, if they carry the brand and represent it, then from a legal stand point they can often be held accountable for any of that brands products.

So long and thanks for all the flash

That reminds me, I think you mentioned you had some juicy primes?
Any chance of a 135 F2 or similar showing up on Thursday?

Hmmm...so if something of mine breaks, I'll be screwed because I'm a stinkin' furriner? "Just buy a ticket back to the U.S., sir, and we'll be happy to repair it for you there."

Geoff
All I want is a 10-2000 f/0.5L with no distortion that weighs 100 grams, fits in my pocket, and costs $300. Is that too much to ask?

Has anyone here ordered anything from digitalrev (online shop)? If you have, could you give me some feedback on experience in dealing with them?

Me...?

Bought Bigma from them. It arrived, tried to fix it to the camera and it was munted. (Ask Shrimper, he's seen it even if we haven't seen him!!) Wrote to them and they told me to return it to get it fixed FOC. Sent it back and hadn't heard for a while. Emailed them and they told me they would fix it for a price or I'd have to pay to ship it back to me. Several emails and various complaints by me they returned it to me unfixed (and sacked the person who said they'd fix it for free). They offered a 10% discount on my next purchase! I do think having a bit of haggling with stores can bring the price down enough to make it more attractive to buy 'local' and not have the hassle of shipping fees and possible problems with imported goods.

I take it you saw my subtle link in my earlier reply? ;)

And yeah Moppie, there's the usual 17-200 in zooms, then 50 f/1.4, and 135 f/2 and the 35 f/1.4. Might not bring the lot, so let me know what you actually want... :p

Cheers, Dave.
