Got a call about my order placed end of July. I said hold off till they have the fix for the fingers to hold the modifiers. Since my ABs are working at lower power settings without any issues I might cancel my oder. Anothe reason I might keep AB is that with AB I guess I would get faster max sync speed if using AC9 along with mini/flex.

What's the estimated max sync with an AB/AC9 as opposed to a Einstein/MC2?

Don't know yet as I haven't go tmy AC9 yet but I assume you will be able to get faster ss using AB compared to fast flash durations Einsteins.

The max sync speed for any strobe is the one set by the camera manufacturer.
If you are talking about using the tail of a flash as a constant light source then it will vary with flash intensity and length of tail.

Ironically, lower cost monolights work better for this because they tend to have long shallow slopping tails. Here (external link) is a page describing my finding when testing with PW ControlTL.

When testing my AC9s with AB 800s Hyper Sync works but I didn't take time to find optimum settings.

Dave, when you going to post some more info about your AC9? I am looking forward to it as I am thinking of picking one up. I did get AC3 and like it so much except this weekend when I tried it with 550ex I had issues. Need to do more testing.

Bobby,
I may have some time to test it tomorrow. If not it will be next week.

So it's ONLY a 5 month waiting period? And that's if you want to received their flawed rubber band units. I placed an order for mine in mid-October. I'm curious if it will ship before New Year's, especially when they were originally saying it would arrive early to mid-December.

I've been holding onto a bunch of accessories for my Einsteins for 2 months now and I can't use any of them until I get the strobes. I phoned their customer service department because I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to put any of the accessories to use and test if they are working correctly until after their 60 day return policy because the Einsteins wouldn't arrive in that time period. They told me on the phone that they would accept returns in that situation.

For those of you ordering Einsteins + accessories, keep in mind that you have 60 days after your lights ship to order accessories and still get your accessory discount. Obviously when the lights are off of back order there would be less reason to do this, but otherwise you could end up paying a lot of money to get your modifiers and have to sit on them for a while. If you wait, just call when you get notice that your Einsteins are ready to ship and add your accessories to your order at that time.

Thanks for the tip munzzzzzz.

I just got the call today that they are going to be shipping me the rubber band-ized Einstein "in a few days". I should be seeing them before Christmas, which is a relief. I guess the estimate they gave me last month of early to mid-December were actually accurate. They offered to do an exchange down the road, should I want to get the new grip design while it's still under warranty.

I kind of feel cheated that I had to wait nearly 6 months to get mine, oh well, all is good :).

Adding onto munzzzzzzz comment, you can also put a note in your order requesting the whole order ship at the same time. I did that and nothing shipped until my Einsteins were ready.

I thought I had read at one point that they were holding up shipments again until the finger design was fixed. It sounds like maybe that process has been delayed, and if that's the case, I can see them potentially wanting to get units out the door in the interest of having $$$ flowing in.

I currently have two V1's and one V2 with the rubber band fix (I think they found the finger issue the same day I finalized my second order, and as a result it shipped about a week later with the rubber bands). I'm not having any problems with any of my lights, though I do have my modeling lights on the V1's set to be proportional at half power so I never have to worry about overheating. I do intend to get everything "updated" once they have all their issues worked out but even if the option is presented to me, I won't bother sending my V1's in for exchange until the V2 finger issue is resolved.

My order I just got on Tuesday did not have the rubber bands included so I am not sure if I got a one with the latest fix or not.

I also received mine last week from a late July order without rubber bands; According to the customer service rep I talked to before I had these shipped, these units have a different spring to fix the tension issue but not the redesigned fingers. I was also told that PCB will replace these units with the redesigned ones if you request for them to do so.
