Great shots all! I haven't been back to that area in many years. I used to live in SC & covered NC, SC, TN & GA as a Field Svc. Engineer. I loved the driving because of the views especially in the Mtns. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

Since my wife posted from our trip in October 2009, I'll contribute some from June 2010. We are already planning our trip for next year.

We're getting a lot of snow here in western NC right now, haven't got a chance to get out in it yet. Here's one from last winter.

Tammy,

My wife and I love going the Smokies and staying in different cabins each time.

What cabin was it that you stayed in and what was the rental company name?

Thanks

I'll toss a couple of shots in the mix from last summer... I think some of these made rounds through the forums last year...

1) Cades Cove in GSMNP

2) 3 shot pano of Devil's Courthouse on the BRP...

3) View in to SMNP... The far right mountain is Clingmans Dome, the highest point in GSMNP at 6643 ft... Larger size hyperlinked on the photo...

Hi there, for the pictures I posted we were staying in a cabin called Castle on a Cloud, it was with Starr Crest Resort (now Dollywood Vacations). This year we stayed in Mountain Splendor with Outragious Cabins. Both cabins were perfectly laid out and had wonderful views. However Castle on a cloud had a much more open view as there were no cabins in front of it, Mountain Splendor had cabins below it but still in your view. Mountain Splendor was a much lower cost as well! We will be heading back in 2011 for our 3rd year and havn't decided yet where we want to stay but can't wait to get back!!

Ready for a little story? :D I really wish I had my pictures from my honeymoon...

My ex-wife and I rented a cabin outside of Pigeon Forge the last three weeks of December '99. We brought in Y2K in downtown Gatlinburg (was anyone else there?) I had bought a bunch of mortars and stuff from a fireworks store in Knoxville, and because I'd spent over $100 they gave me a free "brick" of bottle rockets (I don't remember how many rockets there were, but I do believe it was in the 1000s, anyway...) So it's New Years Eve night and I learn that Gatlinburg is a fireworks free city due to it's proximity to the GSMNP. That didn't stop me. So we're sitting there across the street from the Space Needle, and I'm launching mortars from inside the crowd! I was also tossing hand fulls of bottle rockets to the folks around me. Was pretty cool to do a fireworks show for 10k people. :D

Anyway, the last mortar I had didn't quite go all the way down into the launch tube and when it launched it didn't go all the way up into the sky. It went high enough not to harm anything or hurt anyone but it was pretty low. That's when I noticed the police heading for me through the crowd! Luckily I blended in and nothing happened; all they found was an abandoned launch tube.

After the ball dropped and all the festivities were over we were walking back to where we parked our car, and all we could hear were hundreds of bottle rockets being launched all over town! Was a really cool night! :)
