Interested in buying a PCB Parabolic Light Modifier.

Since I searched and couldn't find any thread dedicated to PLM photos I decided to make one. Show them off guys

Maybe due to product delays the images wil be on back order too!
:D
A lot of customers cancelled their orders after the interminable delays I did. However, I have seen some out in the wild. Probably the worst thing a company can do is offer vapourware. It happened a lot in the 90's in software.

It would be interesting to see some more images from this modifier.
Cheers
Shane

I have the V1 PLM's. Here's one with 64" and 42", ( plus a hairlight back there ).
When shot, the 42 on the left was almost on camera axis.
:D...and try to ignore the dirty sensor and fly-away hair ! This was quick shot to show.....something or another....LOL....can't even remember what the discussion of the day was !

Edit: Buy 'em when you can. They are cheap and cheerful....what's not to like ? Well...apparently there is something to not like on the V2: the mounting system. Do a little poking around here on the forum. There is a thread about how lousy the new mount is compared to the old. I'm glad I got the old version.

Alex,
I think V1 came out in 2008 or 2009. I got mine in '09. Availability was the same situation then too.....he was selling the dang things as fast as the chinese could make them. I got all of them just because they are so inexpensive and so darn useful.

Yeah....and I'm betting that it may be fairly hard to find V1 PLM's on the used market. It seems most folks like them well enough to keep them. And it's not like a person is gonna get much out of them anyway, since they didn't cost much new. With the bad opinions of the new mounting system by some folks, it will probably just make V1 owners just hang onto what they've got.

I'll keep mine until they wear out, break or get destroyed by a gust of wind.

The V2 mount is either a liability or an asset, George, depending upon your point of view. It's definitely much more of a pain to assemble compared to the V1 when used "conventionally". However, for those of us who like to tinker, the V2 offers some unique opportunities for experimentation. For instance:

or

or, my personal favorite, the Mumbrella (more forthcoming at a later date ..)

actually i like dave's (tetrode) version 2 mod making the mount from behind

essentially turning it into an indirect octa, pretty sure you could fab something like that up yourself

If you go to http://galleries.dmwfotos.com (external link) the two galleries that are not password protected were shot with V1 PLMs.
They were done in the models living room in each case. Big Silver camera left no diffusion, mid-silver camera right behind model for kicker. Mid-white just right of camera for fill.

All mounted on AB800s. My recollection is that the expsosure was 1/160 F10 or 11 ISO 100. Both were shot with 5D1.

PLMs were within 6 feet of model and lights were less than half power.

Had my 64" v1 for a while, and use it whenever I have enough ceiling height. Here's a couple recent pics, all silver 64" with diffusion cover:
