I mean just how much is it worth to you to make it look like a 1 series? .......come on guys.....don't lie. I can change a battery in 5 seconds.....lol Changing batteries is a PITA especially doing events. Holding the camera straight in portrait orientation is also kind of a PITA without a grip. The 7D starts losing FPS the lower the batteries get, so by having two, I am prolonging my max FPS time length. Will | WilliamLiuPhotography.com

It's a small camera and the grip gives you more surface area to hold the camera steady. Good for portrait style too. I always have the option of removing it. I'd say on a long distance hike it would come off and stay home due to weight. Gear List

Obviously it's great for portrait shots - both static subjects and moving subjects - but the camera also feels more balanced in landscape. 5DIII, 5DII, EF24-105, EF 70-200 f4L IS, EF 85 1.8, "Sigmalux" 50 1.4, EF 35 f2, EF17-40 f4L
