First off i know there are already LOTS of other threads asking the same thing.

I'm mainly wondering how people feel with the same body that i have..

so 7D users you gripped or not?

gripped.. I tried to go without once.. but the camera felt naked and unbalanced (with 70-200)

the portrait controls are nice.. I couldnt imagine shooting portrait orientation without them.. and of course, without the grip, no E1 either

Changing batteries is a PITA especially doing events. Holding the camera straight in portrait orientation is also kind of a PITA without a grip. The 7D starts losing FPS the lower the batteries get, so by having two, I am prolonging my max FPS time length.

haha... we'll i don't have a 7D, but if I did, it would be gripped...always. (I have a T1i at the moment)

I've handled the 7D, and its just "small" for my hands. (Now I absolutely never shoot my T1 without the grip for that reason alone.)

But, hey, I like that it looks close to the 1D Body...hehehe... i'm guilty!

Gripped. I just like the feel and it is more comfortable in my hands.

I just got a grip for my XSi and I must say I like it. It's a small camera and the grip gives you more surface area to hold the camera steady. Good for portrait style too. I always have the option of removing it. I'd say on a long distance hike it would come off and stay home due to weight.

Got a grip a while back, haven't taken it off the camera since. Obviously it's great for portrait shots - both static subjects and moving subjects - but the camera also feels more balanced in landscape.
