Now if they do recover the money, you will be paying it forward as the generosity of a new and better lens was bestowed upon you by the gracious people of POTN?

He should just spend it on his kid :D !

Of course. I wrote a ways back I would be donating to POTN.

Thats funny the idea of a movie came up again, Helen your memory is awesome! I am still against Tom Cruise as playing me, maybe Tom Hanks?

CountryBoy: That little girl is spoiled rotten! She has grandparents that get her more stuff than I know what to do with! But, thanks!

brownbugger: Karma has come to me in so many ways. The way the POTN family came together and to have a happy and healthy family are just a couple examples.

I was lead to this post by a person in the photography section of baltimore craigslist. I am so blown away by this post and how all the people came to give great info and chip in on a new lens. this really lets me think that there is good in this world. i am really interested in what is going to happen to the thief once he goes to VA.

Ha I finally have a gear list!
Canon 60D, 18-135, 50 1.8, 55-250,
Canon Rebel XS 18-55. Some flashes and filters and a tripod with a bag to put it all in!

So you have to give us some visual images of the characters.
Who would play the detective ?
Who would play the crim ?

Funny you posted this. My in-laws live in B-more, we are heading over there for Christmas. So I surfed over to their section of CL to have a look around as there are far more photo geeks over there than where I live. I saw that post and it made me chuckle.

Dude, you might lost 900 bucks, but you have such an good heart, and that's priceless!
I am sure good things are on your way! ;)

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

Here's my idea of the starting cast for the movie:

Bucketman: John Travolta
kid that sold the stolen lens: Frankie Muniz
dad of the kid who drove the car: Danny Devito
detective with the bad news: Arnold Schwarzenegger (thanks Ryan!)
DDCSD: Steve Carell (sorry Derek, you're the comic relief!)
wanyc: Megan Fox (hey, somebody has to be the eye candy, no offense Helen! :D)
Helen Oster: as herself
Pekka: Sean Connery (ive always had this image on my head that Pekka is a splitting image of Sean Connery)
extras: THE ENTIRE POTN COMMUNITY!

Lets bring this thread back to life and post YOUR version of the movie cast! :p

Bucketman needs to be more vulnerable. The whole cast needs to be more Seinfeld.

Chet's movie cast:

Bucketman: George Costanza (Short, stalky and vulnerable)
Guy that sold the stolen lens: Newman (conniving)
Parents of the kid who drove the car: Estelle and Frank Costanza (loud and deliberate)
detective with the bad news: Jerry Seinfeld (smooth talker, very as-a-matter-of-fact)
DDCSD: Kramer (Has all of the ideas)
wanyc: Marisa Tomei (Has a soft spot for short stalky guys)
Helen Oster: Elaine (New York chick but with understanding)
Pekka: Morty Seinfeld (The father figure who would look good in the Cadillac from his son)
extras: THE ENTIRE POTN COMMUNITY!
Seinfeld characters definitely are covered.
