I have read alot of good things about this lens, what type of photography is this lens good for?

I use mine for landscape & architecture. I will occasionally use it for unique portraits.

extremely useful focal length on a crop camera , I use it for some portraits with a unique / unusual perspective.

Just about anything and everything - your choice. About the only restriction would be macro, but even then, it does pretty durn good (in an interesting manner) there too :) Great lens, even if my lady has named it "Distorto".

Does anyone know why this lens is always out of stock at the major retailers? Is it because it is wanted by so many people or is it because Tokina is a small company and cannot keep up with the demand for it?

B&H, Adorama both have it in stock....
Plenty new on ebay as well......

Other thing too... when I was researching before I bought mine, was interesting to see the price fluctuate quite significantly, an indication of supply : demand. From my conversations with a couple of these retailers, was a bit of both... high demand, coupled with sporadic shipments from Tokina. Prices up, inventory low - prices low, shipment received.

I got mine from there, reliable seller, they took it back w/o any questions too, promptly refunded as well.
