Hi Fligi7

My plan is to shoot images with a lot of sky and / or water movement, preferably in black and white. Michael Levin (external link) and Micheal Kenna (external link) are prime examples of what my intentions are going into it, but once I get started who knows what will happen.

I'm thinking landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, and tall objects I can isolate somehow. I'm a big fan of this style of photography, don't know if it will translate into something I actually enjoy doing. Hopefully. I was wondering if anyone in the bay area is actually practicing this style of photography?

I'm visiting norcal next week 12/20-12/26. I didn't plan on rain coming down pretty much the whole week. So much for outdoor photography. I was thinking to do it anyways.. Anyone want to meet up and shoot something rain related?

It's a BIG Bay Area. Where are you going to be staying? East Bay? South Bay? North Bay? Peninsula? San Francisco itself?

When / where? I'm in the 408 area code (southbay). I am minutes away from San Jose.

Anyone shoot long exposures (1-6 minute) with ND filters? I am about to start this style of photography, hopefully today if my new lens is delivered early enough. I think I am all set... recently purchased a tripod, nd110 filter, remote shutter release and an UWA. Just wondering if anyone else, local, is into this style of photography?

I have a nd filter that I've never used, would be interested to try this out as well when the weather is better. Are you thinking (I assume) during sunlight to make people "disappear"?

Hi Rob

To be honest I never thought about using the filter that way but now that you mention it I would like to try it.

Yesterday when UPS dropped off my UWA there wasn't much daylight left but I managed to try out the filter for the first time. I quickly realized that I had not educated myself enough on how to use it properly. I know I need to subtract 10 full stops but I had never tried photography when bulb mode was used and I was a little confused. I did manage to get a few 30 second exposures though. I have to read more on the subject until I understand better what I am doing.

I'm not sure how much you know about using ND filters, I could give you a few links I have been reading that helps explain how to use them (manual mode, manual focus, figure out the proper exposure w/o the filter, then mount the filter and subtract the stops, etc).

I'm looking forward to christamas cause the weather should be decent and I plan to spend the day practicing.

Take care.

I do have to work this coming week (Mon-Thurs). But I'll be getting off work around 4pm.
Any idea which day you'll be in the 680/24 area? That's where I live and work.
