Hi everyone, brand new forum member here. Quick question - I found two Bowens Mono 9000 strobes recently from a friend and was wondering if and how it's possible to connect them to a T2i/550D...I don't have any flash right now, although I'm planning on getting a speedlite 430ex or maybe 530 soon. Is there a sync cord that goes from the hot shoe to the 1/4" sync port in the back of each light? Or maybe optical slave triggers? I've never used off-camera lights before, so this is all new to me. They both work, they're just 20 years old, and the guy at the local camera shop simply said "They're too old, you should get new lights." How helpful  Thanks in advance for help, links to products, or info. Also, nice forum you have here! :D

I know the old Bowens monolights use a 1/4 "phone plug" for the synch cord, as do some others. This could go to a hot shoe. There are also optical slaves that plug directly into that. Check websites to be sure they don't produce too high a voltage for digital cameras.

Unless you need special features there's nothing wrong with a light being old, esp. if it is free.

I've got five of the "old" Bowens lights, two of the 9000, two of the 15000 and one 24000. Great lights. Never had any problems with any of them in 25 years (except the time one fell onto concrete from about 10 feet!!!) I have several of the original Bowens slaves and I hate them. I prefer to use a household to 1/4 inch adapter and the Wein slave that has the household type of prongs.
