Working on a budget and need some advice from some of the more advanced photographers on this board. What is the best hot shoe flash for Canon.

Vivitar 383 is a great choice,,,was my first flash b4 I went 580 exii.

129.95 new from b and h.

i also have it for sale at 90.00 shipped.

Nikon D850 and a bunch of stuff, I have learned a lot here when I was shooting Canon, staying to keep learning..."Every time I set up I learn something new".

Possibly used ones. I have seen good flashes such as the Vivitar or Sunpak at flea markets and the like for $5, but with a digital camera you must make sure that the voltage of any older one is safe (there are websites) or get an accessory that makes it safe.

You might also consider some of the YongNuo flashes, such as the YN-468 if you'd like to retain ettl, or the YN-560 if you're okay with full manual control. While these do carry some QC issues, they offer a whole lot of bang for the buck.

The best $100 flash is probably the Yongnuo YN467 or YN468 but if you just need a basic Canon ETTL flash with manual controls the YN465 is only $65

I got my YN560's for ~$65 each. Just depends on if you can catch the deals..

Are you looking for an ETTL flash, or a manual non-ettl flash?
