Just picked this lens up yesterday used - excited because I've never had anything bigger than 100mm before :-) 2 test shots wide open, playing around....the deer is a little motion blurred I think, it was dusk and I had been holding that lens up a long time haha

The choice for me is simple. I have only 2 lenses: the 17-55mm is used inside and the 70-200mm is used outside. I'll use the 17-55mm outside only for landscapes on a tripod and I almost never do those.

I've always loved this lens, and I love this shot but don't feel like posting an entirely new thread in the 'Birds' section, so it's just going in here :D

Couldn't be happier with this 10 years old lens (used). I have never done telephoto before. I use T2i with TV model.
Bird1. ISO200, 200mm, 1/2500, f/4.
Bird2. ISO200, 170mm, 1/2500, f/8.0.

about to pull the trigger on a new lens...I love what I see here! Can someone share their experience with this lens and a Rebel body? How's the weight affect shooting? How does the glass compliment the body in terms of picture clarity? I have a T1i by the way...

thanks so much

Matt

I'm not sure about a Rebel, but I use mine on both a 40D and 5DC, and it works well on both. As far as the weight goes...your grip is going to be centered on the lens, and the T1 will pretty much hang on the business end of it.

Well, it surely would give some of the best pictures you may have with your Rebel or T1i. However, I believe that this would make you want to upgrade to 60D or 7D or higher much faster. It sounds funny to have this lens on a Rebel.

I don't know the specs of the t1i vs 60D or 7D but I'm sure that a t1i with a good lens gives better results than a 60D with a poor lens.

At least this is a lens you can stay with. I have bought a very expensive EFs lens(17-55mm) that will not fit on a 5D so that makes upgrading a lot more expensive.

Of course, but that is not incompatible with the concern I raised.

incorrect.

This lens on my T2i makes me want to buy even more great glass.

A better body is nowhere on my radar. Keep in mind that the T1i would have been an absolutely amazing camera when this lens was designed back in 1995.

I've only heard owners of larger bodies say that it looks funny on my camera (you and another guy). Everyone else just ducks.

OK. It's good that you think the other way. Enjoy your combo.
