5DII and sell my 7D???

I purchased my 7D a few months back, primarily for a trip.

Having lived with it for a few months now, I must say I'm not blown away with it (I came from a 40D).

The rear screen is brilliant, so clear and works superbly in 'live view'. However, I never use full burst mode (I stick to the intermediate), I never use anything other than centre spot AF, and very rearly use AI servo, I've only ever used the flash twice!!

Am I missing something but it seems (apart from the screen), there isn't anything about the 5DII that I'd miss?

Is now a good time to buy a 5D, OR is it worth waiting a few months for the long awaited replacement (which still might not come), and then pick up a mint used copy.
With the 7D only halfway through its life, prices aren't going to drop much so whether I sell now or in 6 months isn't going to make much of a difference, is it?

There are a bunch of these threads already. To this reader it sounds like you're not comfortable with the 7D yet and therefore not enjoying some of the great features of this body.

You would be taking a significant step back in the focusing system with the 5D from the 7D but if you dont shoot action then its probably not an issue. Just make sure you get a full grasp on what going full frame does for your lens lineup as its a drastic change. If you can live with that, then I think you will be impressed with the IQ and iso performance of the full frame cameras.

The screen on the 5D MK II is nice as far as I can tell.
-> if you use just your centre AF point then the 5D's one will be great.

The only thing you might want to worry about is a successor which will possibly be about 500+ € more expensive - on that note though, the MK III has been rumoured for over a year now and not shown up at all... and the 5D MK II is not a worse camera if one turns up.

I bit the bullet and traded my 7D to a 5Dmark II, other than it's lack luster focus system everything about leaves a satisfying taste in my mouth. The 5DmarkII makes me want to go out and take infinitely more picture to the point I fill up my 32gb cf card to it's max. All in all I've been able to capture a lot better pictures and have never looked back to the 7D.

I'm not worried about my lens line-up as I have a 24L II, 50MP, 135L and 200L II, I might have to trade in my 200L to bridge the gap though.

Plus, moving to the 5D means I can purchase a prism for my Zeiss.

If I don't use the camera I have to its utmost capability, then I really don't need that camera.

I think that the OP's decision would be:

a) learn how to take advantage of the bells and whistles of the 7D...

b) sell the 7D and either go back to a 40D or buy a full frame camera...

Those are all fine lenses, but if you can borrow a FF camera for an afternoon you should try one as the 24 and 50 will perform much differently on the FF camera. The longer lenses will have less reach but their purpose isnt affected as much.

When I first got the 7, I learnt how to use it, and tried to make the most of it's AF system, but I only felt I did this because it was there.

I wouldn't want to go back to the 40 as I couldn't be without micro adjustment, as both my 24L and 50MP require varying amounts.

Very true, I do worry the 24L which is currenly my walkaround, would be too wide.

I believe the 7D and the 5DII have the same screen. If there is a difference it is pretty minor. I own both and they both look the same to me.

Just before the 5D II came out I bought a 5D.
The specs of the 5D II was not enuff for me over the 5D.
I figured then I would skip the 5D II and wait for the 5D III - or the 3D.
I still have a 20D and thought about up ing it to 7D but then logical thinking
said stick to the original plan and screw the 7D.
Canon is pissing off too many with undersized pixels and lack of good QC.
