Not sure if this is in the correct forum, but here goes:

Recently sold (12/28) an older Canon lens on eBay for XX amount of money, and received payment the day the auction ended via paypal. My auction states that there is a 1 business day "hold" (12/29), and then finally the item is shipped (today-12/30). This all happened according to schedule, never heard a word from the buyer.

Well, I shipped his item out, then I look at Paypal a few minutes ago and his order is "Cancelled." Now, I do accept returns at the buyers expense (SH) within 7 business days of his getting the item. I am very good at keeping all documentation regarding shipping (So I will KNOW when he gets it), but I'm wondering what Paypals course of action is if my item is NOT returned. First time this has happened to me so I wasn't sure what to think, so I simply emailed Paypal thus far and explained what was going on.

Will I eventually just file a dispute and keep my funds if it is not returned, or is there trickery up these A-holes sleeves that will make this a very uncomfortable process?

Ron

I would contact e-bay as well and let them know that you did everything you have said you would. I did not know the buyer can "cancel" once the bidding is over; don't they have to go through ebay procedure and contact you first?

I guess not. I didn't think they could do it either. :\ eBay has become the wild west.

Intercept the package and have it rerouted back to you.

Do I do this by simply contacting UPS and providing my shipping information?

Anyone that sends money, especially for an auction, can't cancel after sending, the refund has to come from the seller...

It's possible that they used an eCheck which takes 3 days to clear... They might be able to cancel the transaction, however, you should see on your end that the money isn't available, and hold the shipment. This is either a bank problem, or straight up fraud...

The money is in my "Pending balance" due to new eBay seller restrictions, and does give me an option to refund his money. Thats what causes me to do a double take. The balance he sent IS THERE (in a sense), the only information I have is that the "ORDER STATUS" is "Cancelled" as of today.

Yes contact UPS ASAP and have them stop transport, it will cost you but do not let that lens go.

There is no ORDER STATUS in PayPal... Are you using some type of third party auction shopping cart...

This is from PayPal... A payment made by a buyer cannot be canceled unless it has been unclaimed...

Question:
Can I cancel a payment that I've already sent?
Answer:
If the payment is complete, you can contact the person who received the payment and request a refund.

To cancel an unclaimed payment:

1. Log in to your PayPal account.
2. Click History.
3. Click Cancel under Order Status/Actions.
4. Click Cancel Payment next to the unclaimed payment.

Note:
• A payment is automatically canceled if the recipient doesn’t accept it within 30 days.
• If you paid with a credit card, it can take up to 30 days for a refund to appear on your card statement.

The only thing I can think of at this point is that in some sort of sleepy daze I clicked "Cancel" instead of "Add tracking information".

I guess we'll find out tomorrow, as if this is the case my 8 day old newborn son and lack of sleep are partly to blame. Embarassing.

Edit: If I cancelled, would tracking info still be there? I think I need to get a good nights sleep for the first time in a week and just call paypal tomorrow morning.

Not sure what's going on... Calling is your best bet... I just rec'd money for an eBay auction, and I went through PayPal and eBay and there is no place that I can just cancel the transaction. The seller is on the hook just as much as the buyer... So to answer your last part... I don;t see any place to cancel the transaction, at all... Please, get some sleep, I have a 2 year old and another due in April... also please update us when you get an answer...

They already said the money IS there.

Have you received payments through PayPal before this? What kind of PayPal account do you have (personal, premier, business)?

It's all settled. I got a good nights sleep, called them up, and apparently on their servers it's not showing up as cancelled. I contacted the buyer who was understandably confused, and everything is now settled.

Ah, the joys of parenthood. Until now I thought they were a myth :D Happy New Year everyone, hope I entertained a few of you.
