I slim my chances down from my 7d and 30 1.4 to a 5d mark ii or classic. Have time since amazon are out of stock atm. I will mostly be doing portraits. Thanks in advance and happy new year.

I'd do the 5d2 and 1.8.
I have them and have also used the classic with the 1.2...

I have both the 5dc and 5dii with the 85L. I've also had two of the 85 1.8's. From my personal experience, I found a big difference between the 1.8 and 1.2. My 1.8's were not nearly as sharp, the IQ didn't seem as good to me, and I like and use the extra stops. The 1.8 is still a great lens though. While I absolutely love my 1.2, I would go with the 5dii/1.8.

Definitely the 5D and 85L.
There'll will be a 5DIII next year probably but an 85L III? Maybe in 10 years from now?

Glass retains much more value than Body.
And glass doesn't come much better than the 85LII. Right?

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

5D2+Sigma 85 1.4

~95% the quality of the 1.2L, half the price allowing you to get the 5D2 which will more than compensate, not to mention all the features. If you're worried about low-light not being as good the 5D2 has much better high iso.

X2 on this suggestion. Even a 5dc and the siggy 85 make for great opportunities
