The flipside can be said as well though. You'd hate to have your bag in the way of doing something fun or riding a certain ride. One or two times of it getting in the way and....

:)

To be honest, I never had a problem... my SLR went with me on all the rides - everything from the Carousel of Progress to Test Track, and everything in between :)

My wife was pregnant as well, we got her a scooter at each park. Worked out very well.

Well, we are leaving next Thursday for Disneyland. I rented a Canon 17-55mm 2.8 lens to take with me too.

Can't wait!

Have fun.... renting that 17-55 2.8 will make you want to buy one. Should take some great pics with your t1i

Just ask yourself how the DSLR shots will help you remember the trip any more vividly than shots from a compact camera. Also ask yourself what your kids will remember - dad worrying about his expensive big camera, or Dad having fun with them.

Absolutely. I've been to Disney once, pre-baby. It was tough enough managing my G6 in the park on rides, etc., and I can't imagine wrangling my 2 year old on top of managing a DSLR - seems to me like a recipe for a pissed-off spouse, frustrated kids, and a degraded family experience. Take an S95 so you can carry it in your pocket or around your neck.

I find that I miss so much fun my kids are having when I bring by gear. I've started leaving it and using a P&S and enjoying the time with my kids.

Just got back from Disney yesterday and brought my camera gear. I didn't feel like it got in the way at all. I think it comes down to what you bring with you daily and how focused you are on photography vs just having fun. Most days I just had my camera w/Tamron with strap 'cross-shoulder' and it was very much out of the way. In animal kingdom and one other day in the parks, i wore my Incase DSLR-sling which was also very comfortable and 'minimalist'. I had no issues on any rides, crowds or buses packed with people.

Assuming you pack lightly and don't pack your camera bag like you're shooting a wedding, you'll be fine. Bring it!

My son just turned 2.5 and we've been to disneyworld 6 times already, going again this Xmas... I always bring my dSLR stuff with me, doesn't mean I have to take it out of my slingpro. Not every shot has to be the perfect shot. We also bring along a P&S, which recently has been the waterproof/shockproof panny TS2. If time allows, I'll bust out the dSLR, if not, I'll have fun with the kid and use the TS2 when necessary.

SIX times... that is enough to bankrupt someone :) Certainly not a cheap vacation (at least with my wife doing the planning and booking)

I just got back from a 7 day trip to DW and brought along my T2i. I packed a 580EX, Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC, and Tamron 28-300 VC. Absolutely no problems carrying all that around. The flash stayed mounted 24/7 and I swapped lenses as necessary. It took a day getting comfortable with a small Tamrac bag and the DSLR with mounted flash but became second nature. I rode it on all the rides, took video and pictures during the rides and came up with some really good pictures. My only complaints were battery life for the T2i and memory for the shots. I averaged 1100 pictures a day! I have hundreds of "keepers"! Not once did the camera detract from the fun we were having as a family. The pictures are awesome! Take it and don't regret it.

I know I'm late to the thread, but I'll still add my advice: take both cameras. However, set aside one day, or some speciic times, as your "big camera" time.

The thing with Disney and kids is you do t want to spend the day lugging gear around. Furthermore, you want to be able to enjoy the time with the family instead of being the dad that spends every waking minute taking pictures.
My wife and I go yearly and have found the p&s works freat for quick, candid shots and overall just makes the experience easier and therefore better.
We do have times where we'll go out to the parks with the dslr with the sole purpose of getting great shots of scenery, family, etc. Those times are set aside as photograph time.
Of course, using the park hopper option makes this more feasible as we spend a few hours hopping to different parks and hotels to take pictures. One fine example of best use of dslr is the nighttime shows (fireworks, parades, fantasmic). A regular p&s just likely won't yield satisfying results in these scenarios so the dslr is a must ... At least for us.
We've set aside a whole day strictly for touring the parks and taking it all in, rather than riding rides. This allows us the freedom to stop and snap nice shots rather than feel rushed and tied down. We also sometimes come back to our on property resort and grab late lunch/early supper, and go back to the park with the dslr.

So, again, my recommendation is to take both down to Orlando, but only use the dslr during set aside hours and let the p&s serve you during the majority of the trip.

Why not think about getting a very good camera bag? I have the Kata and a Lowepro slingshot 200 backpack, very easy to use and wear.

Would always regret not taking any of my camera's.

Very happy I took the SLR everyday. All of the P&S pics we ended up trashing.
