Still learning please criticize tell me what you think.

If you're looking for C&C, you'll have much more luck in the critique section of the forums.

A challenging subject for me. The 7D is the least of my worries with shots like this, and does a great job.

QUOTED IMAGE

One from the country today

What kind of trees are these? Even though it looks bleak and a bit spooky it's still very inviting, I'd love to ride my mare along that road with my whippets trotting alongside me.

Doing a quick DOF calculation, the DOF of this lens/camera combination was almost 3 ft. I assumed that you were about 15ft from the gazebo. So, I don't think "very narrow depth of field" is really the issue. Were you focusing on the gazebo? It almost looks like some of the leaves on the tree may be in focus more than the gazebo. Also, what was your shutter speed? Maybe there's a bit of motion blur from not holding the camera still?

I don't want to get into a debate about this - I just posted what I considered to be a nice outdoor shot, I wasn't looking for a technical critique. The gazebo was the point of focus - the gazebo and background leaves are in focus, the tree and foreground are out of focus, hence my reference to depth of field. EXIF is intact if you're interested in shooting details. These small, low-rez POTN posts are not very good for evaluating things like image sharpness, as we continually point out to people asking for help in judging the sharpness of their images. :)

Took my girls to the zoo and thought this was a pretty cool scene. This is my 5 year old who has a bit of a photography itch herself, complete with her little purple Vivitar point and shoot.

Happy New Year all

Thanks much. Nothing technically dazzling, but I thought it was a neat moment.
