Typical Canon crap...$123 L rings, $150 tripod collars, $100 wired remotes, etc...

They make some awesome products for a great price, but some of this stuff makes my head spin...

Googling 24-105 red ring fall off actually yields a few results. I just hope this doesn't happen to my soon-to-be 24-105L.

Just for that, I'm going to paint the red ring black before I ship it out :)

Call Canon service department and get their red paint for the 400L 5.6 lens. That lens has the hood built-in and the red ring is simply painted on. Photo courtesy of Canon.

You will have to fill the 24-105 ring channel with putty or something if you are going to paint. I think just dropping paint into it won't nearly show like the ring did.

Yeah the reason they want so much for the ring is they won't sell just the ring, you have to buy the whole upper barrel assembly, even though the ring is a seperate piece and is removed easily. I wasn't too happy to find that out:(

You can get customized 22ct GOLD ring to fit the lens. I meant it, not kidding.
When you can give jewelery to wife, why not to a beloved lens ?

OMG.. 3 pages.. LOLOLOLOL...

if the red ring does not affect the IQ.. why is it important ??

did you buy the lens because it has a red ring around it.. or did you buy it for it's IQ and versatility ??

Reading this thread made me actually go and cut some electrical tape and tape it around my lenses lol!

My crappy lenses just became twice the money worth for each red ring! :D
