50mm works for me specially indoor w/ babies.

I should have stated in the OP that I do own a 550ex flash and do have a remote trigger/reciever for use in the house.

Okay, danger. After waffling, I've decided on a 50 prime. Now time to start researching reviews.

Although it's not the best of the best, the Canon 50mm II is definitely worth the money. I'd start there and if you find you really don't like it, you can always upgrade

I would get a 50-250 so you can get close ups and ones further away.

I think is the best prime for the money, I just bought my second copy this month, I sold my first copy thinking I would not need it with the purchase of my Tamron 28-75mm and even though I can do without it, there's something about a prime and specially the 50mm that's a little "magical".
