I wanted to really bring out the water color in these shots so they may look heavily cooked, but I like them! I hope you like them, too! All shots were taken with 7D + 400/5.6.

First 3 are a set for one turn. I really like how the spray grows in each frame.

4 - A little bit more desaturated than the others, but that's ok.

5 - Bye!

Thanks for the compliments. We've had really spectacular afternoons where the light just bounces off the water at perfect angles. I need to stick around a bit longer and shoot more of the sunsets for a different color palette.

The color works great. Nice series. If you are interested something to consider is a little PP on the surfer to add some light to his face and hands.

Thanks Joe. Which surfer are you referring to? If it's #5, I'd prefer to leave him in a semi-silhouette type of effect.

These were taken at windansea. I'll be surfing Blacks tomorrow morning. Hopefully, there will be some swell left behind.

The wind was on it but there were some fun ones coming through. I will be putting the camera back in the bag and probably surfing Del mar or Cardiff in the pm...go get some fun ones!

#5 works because his face is lit. The first couple however feature a surfer who is in the shadow and not very well lit. A simple contrast adjustment would place the surfer in the same set of values as the waves.

Thanks Joe. I'll have to work on that when I get back to the computer later.

effstop, post your shots! I got a look at what you uploaded on your Flickr. How do you like your new 1DII?

I just re-upped pictures 1-3 after brightening up the exposure on the surfer's face and hands. I think that simple change was a huge improvement to the shots. Thanks for the suggestion, Joe!

Please keep the critiques coming! There's always room for improvement.
