I'm still lovin' the siggy but discovered something recently...

While reviewing some videos shot during the holidays with this lens, it quickly became evident that the funny creaky sound on the video came from this lens while focusing. I can't hear it while shooting but it is definitely audible on playback.

Quite comical for now. We'll see how long it takes before it gets louder.

There are a few others who have a similar symptom (https://photography-on-the.net …p=11456258&postcount=4116) - myself included. I will be shipping it to Sigma next month to have the squeak corrected (have a few more shoots in the meantime).
They have a very long warranty so not concerned ;)

It seems to only do it in live view mode for me.

Somebody raised a question some time ago regarding whether or not this lens is as good a money maker as the "more reliable" L series lenses. Well since that question was asked, I have earned more money with this lens than with all my other lenses put together. I have been doing various jobs lately (portraits, functions, magazine shoots, products) and 95% of the time have been using my 1Ds2 and Sigmalux...just the best combo ever.

This was from a family shoot late last year:

My Sigma 50mm has been sitting unused since getting my 17-55. I was just never happy with the focus of the Sigma even after a trip to NY. After looking through these again recently, I decided to let them have it one more time. I sure hope it comes back working better this time. If not I guess it is time to part ways.

I got my version of this lens on new years eve and i'm really quite impressed with it.

After seeing online pictures of this lens' the lens seems to have the usual Sigma rubbery plastic feel like all the other sigma lenses i've owned.

My lens has a different finish its still plasticy but without the rubberiness.

It has the newer Sigma EX badge on the side and also has the newer centre pinch lens cap.

I purchased it from Amazon.co.uk(Not Marketplace)

I was wondering if Sigma are changing the finish on all of their lenses ?

I can definitely understand that if the lens has focus issues you might want to part with it...but it's still an amazing piece of glass, which is a shame. Sigma and their crappy QC...

The biggest shock for me was taking the Sigmalux into the realm of full frame...it's just unbelieveable. :p

Seriously. After I got the 5D, I couldn't believe how much better the bokeh was! The 70-200L f/4 is completely useable for most things now. I don't really even need f/2.8 for bokeh, just for light.

^^ I agree, my 70-200 is a great portrait lens now on my 5DM2. I use the Sigma in low light.

By request, here is another portrait with the 1Ds2 & Sigmalux combo.

Some of the pictures from this shoot are to be published in Elle magazine so unfortunately I'm not at liberty to share many of them:

1/160, f/8, ISO-800, manual flash fired behind

And 100% crop for the analysts :D
