I'm so in love with how this turned out. My dad insisted on my taking a photo of my sister with a fish like we have from when we were little. I tried to make it look a little bit more vintage, but I'm loving the colours that came out.

Here is my first try at using textures. I need a lot more practice.

I would probably class this as "cross processing" ...
To create it, in photoshop, add a curves adjustments layer, then select the red layer (RGB is default selection in a drop down box, click on that and you will see red green and blue).
Create an S curve for the red layer moving the highlights up a little (+10 or so) and the shadows down (-10 or so).
Then select the green tone curve and do roughly the same as you did for the red.
Next select the blue tone curve but do the reverse of what you did for the green and red ... ie highlights down, shadows up.

... et voila ... your first cross processed image ;)
Play around with these settings to get different strengths of effect.
(EDIT: you can also try adjusting the reds or greens down instead of the blues and see what suits your images best)

(you may also want to add a "haze effect" as per your other question ...)

Something kind of like this?

Thanks again! I would have never thought it would be so easy! It took about 45 seconds to process that photo.

I find subtlety is the key with textures. In the second photo, you can see where I added a grunge texture. If both photos weren't showing, I doubt most people could pick it out and would think dirty pants a dirty shirt.
