@Rich, did you use an extender tube for the macro shot?

I agree, and this is a good question. Congrats on your new lens, enjoy it... I've had mine for a year now, and couldn't be happier with it.

I think maybe some are angry at the fact they cant treat themselves with the toys they like.

Grats on new lens. Enjoy it Its a great lens.

Here are a couple shots I took today with a 7D + 400/5.6L combo indoors in natural light. I love primes.

This lens is easily the best hand held BIF lens in the world by a long stretch.

Try handholding the new 70-200 f.2.8 IS II ( I have one) with a 2X TC and compare it to the 400 f/5.6L, which is sharper at 5.6 focuses MUCH quicker than any lens with a 2X on it and more accurately and if you have a Pro body will take a 2X and still AF at f/8 at 800mm.

You will never part with that lens, I have a brand new one in its box as a spare. I also shoot the 500 f/4L IS, 600 f/4 L IS and 800 f/5.6 L IS (infrequently)

When things get fast I lock down the big whited on their tripods and unleash the 400 f/5.6 on the 7D

Just a correction, will take a 1.4x and AF @ F/8, 2x brings it to F/11.

Not so sure on the first statement, I had the 400/5.6 for over three years but prefer the 300/2.8 + 1.4tc for BIF(although the weight of the 400 is great). I would also doubt that the 400/5.6 + 2x tc would focus faster than the 300/2.8 + 2x tc - trouble is you could never prove it because the 400/5.6 + 2 x will not AF on any body as far as I know (800/11).
