...be sure to get photos of the fairies...I'm hoping they will provide the update for version 8. It's only one year old, so what's with not supporting it!?

Edit: I just submitted a "Case" about it on Adobe's website, we'll see how they respond.

Dennis

Thanks Dennis for the action. I agree it is not like I am asking for support for PSE 3 or something ancient!

I'm really sorry about this, but looks like Adobe have changed the files available for ACR. Both versions 5.6 (version I'm using) and 6.2 have the plugin which you can copy in. The new version 6.3 doesn't have this......maybe its to make you upgrade when you get a new camera to latest version of PSE.....

Like you say , it would appear that it could be an attempt to get folks to upgrade but on that basis I will give Adobe products a big swerve in future as the Return on Investment for a product that has a shelf life of less than a year is very poor...or an expensive addiction that most of us on this forum suffer!:o

The flip-side seems to be that Canon are using camera-specific RAW processing that makes keeping up very difficult for Adobe which is platform agnostic.

I received a reply from Adobe on this question, and the only support option suggested was to download their DNG converter. They gave no indication of their intentions to support PSE 8 by providing an update to ACR. I responded by telling them I would inform folks on the various camera forums to avoid buying their non-supported products.

This is nothing new for Adobe. They have been doing this forced upgrade/lack of retroactive support for ACR since at least Photoshop CS3. If a new camera is released, support is only added to the current release of ACR.

BTW, I saw an article that Adobe had record quarter in sales for the last reported period. If I remember right, they had revenues of over 1 billion in a quarter for the first time.

Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread? But, the download Geodude provided does work for the G12 on PSE 9. Seems like this is all designed for the camera manufactures and software people to make money. I still remember that stuff called FILM we used to use before the days of must have instant gratification became so popular. We are stuck with this now. However I would like to thank Geodude for the direction to fix PSE9 to take the RAW files from the G12!!!!

I guess if you process your own film it was all good, but most of us were slaves to the processors and their talents. If you wanted better you had to pay for it, and it was a hell of a lot more expensive over time. IMHO

Digital is a win win situation. I am not going to belly ache over free DPP, but I know what you mean about Adobe software getting upgraded all the time and leaving the prior owners in the dust. I guess they forget some folks dont make a living with thier cameras and feel like so many other US companies that eventually go under, that the high revenue sources are the only ones that matter.

They do have to make a lot of money to afford R&D to keep making their software better, but they are like Microsoft now, not letting anyone have any benefits of prior ownership... gotta pay to play period. Upgrade your camera? No problem, pay to play... sheesh

Ill stick with DPP since I dont make a living with my $400.00 G12.

As a side note here, I purchased Aperture 3 through the new Apple App Store a few days ago and got a great deal.(I have an iMac) They were selling it for only $80, plus I had a gift card to cut that price by half. Aperture 3 still does not support the G12 or S95, but I'm hoping they will provide an update eventually...if I were to upgrade to either camera from my G11.
