Took a drive today and shot some landscapes. I've posted two here shot from the same vantage point. Two compositions which one do you like better and why?

Would like to read your thoughts about them. Thanks, Ed

First one is better. The second one has too much dead space top and bottom.

I like the second photo, but it's under exposed hence appears greyish.

I did a very quick touch up on Camera Raw 4.0

Thanks Dino for your comment. I photographed this around 14 years ago, and composed as the second image is composed. I sold a lot of prints of this, but time has a way of causing one to reflect on new possibilities. I returned yesterday to shoot the same composition and then to recompose with tree in right side of frame since it's leaning toward the left.

Thanks JQW. I like your edit to the 2nd image. I was planning on reloading this image and doing some further adjustments. It does clean the whites up a bit, I admit I meter the whites and open up one stop. It usually gives me a little room to play with the levels and maintain detail.
Thanks, Ed

I really like #1. I can put myself in the scene and hear the snow hitting the hood on my coat, and maybe the "berk berk" of a pheasant in the distance! Would love to stroll along, hop the fence, and see what's over that next rise. :)
