MKIV to iPad Video Display

I have a new iPad It is fantastic with the camera connect kit. I was able to display the photos I shot minutes after I was done....just uploaded the files and they displayed perfectly and handed the unit off to the team for viewing.

I also need to shoot some video and did a test. The files transfer to the iPad, but will not run under the iOS. Is there a preferred method to view .MOV files from an MKIV on an iPad?

Any help would be most appreciated.....

Thanks! I saw that. The problem is the default file format from the MKIV is .MOV. The iPad will not play it. No Apps to play it that I can find. I can not find an on board iPad converter. I can not see where I can change the file format out of the MKIV either.

My goal is for immediate feedback. Shoot the video, load to the iPad via the camera connect & share.

I can convert it on the computer and load via iTunes, but that's way too late.

This display on this iPad is excellent. The restrictions are positively maddening.

Any other ideas?

Just chipping in to this thread to subscribe and discover the answer for myself.
I'm really very surprised that .MOVs don't play automatically on the iPad as it's Apple's movie format and the iPad tech specs page says it does - http://www.apple.com/i​pad/specs/

MOV is apples default container. if the ipad won't play it, it's because it can't deal with canon's ENCODING.

Double-check that you're not shooting in 1920x1080. It says right in the specs (i quoted above) that it'll support H.264 compression (which is what the canon uses) in a .mov container.

You could jailbreak it and use one of the aftermarket media players.

Nope. 1280 x 720 does the same thing. It shows a thumbnail during upload. but once the card is removed it shows a MOV icon and won't do a darn thing.

Have you tried the VLC app? I have been meaning to look into this. I am bummed that it doesnt accept video-in at all so you can't use it as a live monitor but if you cant even review footage on it that would be a major buzzkill.

if you're talking about the same VLC apps then that doesn't work either. the VLC that the app store did allow you to download requires that you load the video up in itunes to sync into your ipad.

warning for jailbreak ipad, if you run the VLC by syncing videos from itunes, itunes will delete all apps that was download from cydia or installous.

also using VLC, it won't support 1080p format, the video will freeze up.

There is an add-on, I believe made by the same people that make installous, that keeps itunes from deleting your other apps. It used to make it so you could even update them through iTunes but Apple put a stop to that, now they just hang out and you have to update via installous/cydia. This is at least true for iPod Touch/iPhone, iPad could be different.

So what are you to do to get 7d videos to work on your iPad I'm going crazy. This thing could be so cool if it only worked.

I have tried everything I can think of.....sure would be nice to move a .MOV file from the MKIV onto the iPad and watch but I guess you can't. Sad really..... Thanks Mr. Jobs. Guess I'll bring my Windows 7 laptop.

You were expecting something other than "My Way or No Way" from Jobs?

Have you tried the apple support forums? There's a lot of riff-raff but also quite a few members who actually know their stuff.
