You were expecting something other than "My Way or No Way" from Jobs?

Briefly!!! When the pictures just dropped in I thought..."wow, may be they finally opened some things up" I then was promptly dropped in my place after I loaded the video file :)

Have you tried the apple support forums? There's a lot of riff-raff but also quite a few members who actually know their stuff.

A good suggestion. My expereince with Apple support forums is that 90% are Apple / Mac defenders that like to explain why I don't really want or need the feature I am inquiring about. I'll look, but that shtick gets old fast.

I also need to shoot some video and did a test. The files transfer to the iPad, but will not run under the iOS. Is there a preferred method to view .MOV files from an MKIV on an iPad?

The iPad does not have HD video playback. The easiest thing to do is to download the free app Handbrake and open your video with it, then choose the iPad preset and once it transcode it'll play fine on your iPad.

My goal is for immediate feedback. Shoot the video, load to the iPad via the camera connect & share.

Unfortunately, the iPad is just like an iPod. You have to sync with iTunes before you can load videos on it.

Any other ideas?

If you have a Mac, you can install Plex on your Mac then stream the video to your iPad using the iPad Plex app from the iTunes Store. It works great for my home video distribution. I can open up videos anywhere in the house with my iPad. I also can stream live TV to the iPad with my EyeTV tuner that I have on one of my Macs.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

None of those solutions solve his problem, the point is he wants to be able to do this all on location without access to a computer, something the iPad really should be able to do hardware wise, it's just software restricting it.

HD playback would strain it but it should be possible, they really should have used 512mb of ram vs 256 though. (iPhone 4 has 512).

I have a feeling now that they have figured out what the market wants they will address at least some of these shortcomings in the 2G. However one I wish it would have but don't see coming is video line-in, would make it an awesome live monitor for the 7D, or even the T2i even though it would be in SD.

...another very cool idea for the iPad. Shooting macro would be a whole new adventure... But you don't really need that feature do you? :)

I would love that feature! I do video though so it would help me build a rig. I want an iPad but I also need a live monitor, need is more important than want so I won't likely get an iPad unless I can use it as a live monitor, seeing as a good dedicated monitor will cost me as much as an iPad.

I have a new iPad :) It is fantastic with the camera connect kit. I was able to display the photos I shot minutes after I was done....just uploaded the files and they displayed perfectly and handed the unit off to the team for viewing.

I also need to shoot some video and did a test. The files transfer to the iPad, but will not run under the iOS. Is there a preferred method to view .MOV files from an MKIV on an iPad?

Any help would be most appreciated.....

Thanks,

excerpt:

"While iPad is the shining tablet computer, you make like to share your videos with your friends, or make the camera videos as promotion to your customers while making a presentation. The most popular camcorders for shooting videos are AVCHD cameras from Sony, JVC, Panasonic, Canon, which output 1080i and 1080p videos in .mts/.m2ts format.

However, iPad now does not support HD videos at 1920x1080 or 1440x1080. The maximum resolution supported by iPad is 720p, and iPad does not support the AVCHD format as input. Thus, we need to convert AVCHD to MP4 and downscale 1080i/1080p to 720p for iPad. Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac is the best Mac MTS to iPad converter with built-in profiles for iPad."

edit: I might add that I use Aunsoft's converter as part of my workflow using iMovie. Converting to the standard AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) codec allows easy and effortless editing.
