Has anyone moved from a 55-250 to a 70-300 VC yet? I want faster AF along with IS, but can't afford the 70-200 F4 IS.

hmm.. I believe 70-300 VC's AF is bit faster, but nothing like f/4 IS.
I think you should invest more time and get the $ to buy 70-200 f/4 IS.
Unless you can deal with no IS.

I thought one of the gripes with the Tamron was the slow AF speed? Saving up for the 70-200/4IS is your best bet though. You could also consider the non IS f4. AF is fast and the stop you gain on the long end might suffice.

I essentially made this move, but I really got the Tamron for my 5d2. I like the Tamron much better except that it is pretty large and heavy, where the Canon is very light and compact. For a travel lens, I would definitely choose the 55-250 unless you intend to use CPs. In my unscientific opinion, AF speed is pretty close, with the Tamron just edging the Canon.

I had the 55-250, 70-300, and now have the 70-200 f4 is.

i prefer the build and quality of the 70-300 more than the 55-250. if the 70-300 vc has better build then the canon i would purchase it.

the 70-200 iq and speed are on a different level, even with a 1.4 tx it's nicer than the 70-300 or 55-250!

The VC on the 70-300 is amazing. I easily get 4+ stops out of it at 300mm.

IQ is good, IMO better than the 55-250, I've found focusing good as long as it's not from MFD to infinity, but small changes like birds in flight/people walking/canidids are very quick.
