But in the first picture (The setup shot), the camera is in portrait orientation, but the result picture is in landscape! Unless you cropped it. :p

Fixed !

Engineers Without Borders, as per an earlier post by Matt. Many companies do work with the charity. It is a fantastic one too, for those who don't know about it:

Rhapsody in Red

Forgive the background clutter:

These show a red satin backdrop, draped, black sheer placed over the chair, a red sheer gaffer-taped to the ceiling between the model and the camera (to create the light effects in the shots below), a cheap Cowboy Studio strobe in a softbox to camera left (wrapped in another red sheer) and a white reflector to camera right.

Here are some resulting shots:

Nice dude getting involved with engineers w/o boarders. my department recently held a competition for crutches to be sent over there. i am really looking forward to working with them after i graduate. i'm glad to see you putting your camera to good use.

All your shots are great, but the one above is my favorite. Also, could you provide more detail/explanation about your water-drip delivery system?

Great shots! That's the one thing I haven't done yet with my water drops, bounce off of a background. I can never find anything that I like that will work. I always end up grabbing a photo magazine or something stupid.

But seeing your colored pattern makes me think "Why not print a few pictures off the computer?". I'm going to give it a shot later today and see what happens.

As for "real tripod", hey, if it holds your camera up then that's all you need, right? It could be a bent stick with a bolt stuck through it, whatever works.

The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked - Photographers shoot to thrill, not to kill
