more seriously i absolutely love primes but am actually thinking of switching to 24-70-200 zooms as i want to get into weddings, and they move fasttt, i remember the days when i shot with my nikon d70 and 18-70, fantastic being able to instantly 'change lenses' from 18 to 24 to 35 to 50.. instantly!

Some prime porn and you should check out the 200 2L. It has IS and is sharper than the 1.8 and has less CA (fluorite element)

There is nothing I would want less than wondering the streets of Rome with a 70-200mm f/2.8 IS sticking out from my camera. My 135L always makes me happy on that front. Other than that, I still prefer primes, but don't really care what others use as long as they're happy and not trying to show me why they like zooms ;) It's like religion in that sense!

more on topic: Yes, i use primes only. I guess I could get by with zooms too except for the bulk and speed.

If I'm working on the streets I usually just throw a 35 or 24mm on but I agree find what works for your vision and the way you work.

I have and shoot both. If I had to do without one, I'd keep the zooms. It depends what you shoot, the conditions you shoot under, and whether you can afford to not get the shot.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I have quit zooms for a 24L1.4II, 85L1.2II and 300L2.8 ... I was tired not to be able to take early morning, indoor and night shots ...... so for 2 years I didn't regret any time any zooms I owned..:D

But, I am think to move to a more radical solution .... I still have good legs and looking to go to a Pentax 645D + 55mm /2.8 + 150mm f/2.8

Who is really addicted to fast lenses and rather gives up his f2.8 zooms for f1.4 and/or f1.8 primes? For example 24-70 f2.8 for a 85 1.8 + 50 1.4.
Sometimes even f2.8 isn't sufficient...

you don't use fast lenses to solve low light issues. well yes, if you can't use a flash maybe..

but if light is low, maybe add some light instead of using f1.4 etc...

try to take a group portrait @ f1.2 or for that matter anything where you need DOF ;)

I like to shoot with certain primes because they can give a little extra to some images, but mostly it's in the eye of the beholder... nobody gives a *bleep* which lens you used ;)

Definitely, for me the zooms were just too heavy. I had 17-40 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 just couldn't do it anymore, sold them all and went with 16-35 m2 50 1.4 85 1.8 and 100 2.8
Worked out perfectly for me I love them and now i have a macro, I am missing the 200mm though, i have avoided zoo's for exactly that reason.

I agree on the 35 front... the 35 and 135 are my deadly duo, and the 17-40 for everything else.
