The Eddie Aikau is a surfing event that takes place at Waimea Bay, Hawaii as long as the surf is a minimum of 20ft. Backs. This day, the size did surpass the minimum to start the event, however the consistency of the sets weren't good enough for the judges to give the green light.

Shooting the surf at Waimea sucks on a full frame camera.. i just got reminded of that... Not to mention the profound amount of sea spray made the pictures look soft and hazy...

All Shot on:
5D MkII
70-200 f4L + 2x Extender
15mm Fisheye

Feel Free to Critique!!!!

Camping out at 2AM... Fisheye

I wonder what must go through your head as one is leashing up and getting ready to paddle out.

Awesome set.

Great set! Missed out on the Eddie call yesterday, but I'll be in North Shore all day today to check out some spots! Can't wait to start shooting!

I just cant imagine getting worked on that inside death punch.
Nice shots. I especially like the wide angle ones of the entire bay.

As far as critique? .... I'm thinking maybe your monitor needs calibrating?
Seems like most are flat and lacking contrast & color. Some may even be a little soft on the focus.

... anyway, keep bringing 'em to us ... especially if & when the run the Eddie. ;)

Mahalo

ps ... the "big barrel" shot is sick!

party wave is only sharpened. its that sea spray thats making my pictures look all dull. i hate that lol! makes all of them look soft, out of focus, and old. haha, i guess thats the best that i could do from the distance i shot at. thanks for the compliments everyone. Ace, did you go to the eddie?

#5 and #8 is like the "Chuck Norris" of waves. Even the wave has a wave.
