Reasons

1) Nikon's AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G announced last September.
2) Carl Zeiss' Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 announced also last September.
3) Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM (though this is probably a stretch)
4) Canon marketed the 35mm back in December 1998.
5) Back in 1999 marketed 10 lenses. In 2010 they announced 5 lenses. This would have a leeway of 5 or so lenses for Canon to ship this year. This is a genuine stretch but who knows. :)

What improves can be brought to the flawless lens? Plenty! :p

It isn't.

I also want Subwavelength Structure Coating & dustproofing.

Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass would be nice

The current lens is designed for film and is passable for today's sensors. But when you have no choice but to buy 120MP bodies you will want an updated lens.

Then dont buy a 120MP body. ;-)a You gear will still work even if it is replaced by a newer model.

Weather sealing would be nice. I wish they offered a retrofit program for weather sealing. That is the only reason I take the 35L off my cameras at times.

As others have said, weather sealing alone would be a worthy upgrade. I have used mine in light rain before I got my other sealed lenses but probably won't do it anymore if I don't have to.

They'd probably throw in rounded aperture blades too.

I have been waited almsot a year for the 35L II to come because lack of the weather seal in ver I. It did not happen. So, I got the original 35L. It's a super great lens. Sharp, AF lighting fast, better contrast than sigma 30mm/1.4, focus is just so consistent and accurate in all lighting situation and all focus point so far, feel very balanced with 7D. Bokeh is beatiful in this focal length. But just the weather seal is missing...
