I believe the software has never been upgraded to run on 64 bit, or vista/windows 7 systems.

I think the only criteria for the firewire connection is a 32 bit operating system.
I have a 32 bit version of Vista on my other desktop computer and that's the one I use to connect with my camera. My main computer runs 64 bit Win 7.

Nice moon shot Rich. How much did you crop it?

Where is the best place to get a backup battery? Hopefully cheap, any brands to look for or avoid?

When I bought my 1Ds2 it came with a couple used Canon batteries that didn't hold a charge very well. I grabbed this one from Amazon and have been happy with it. It takes long enough to deplete that I don't really know how much use a full charge gets you. But its more than enough for my needs.

I bought a pair of genuine Canon batteries from KEH last year - can't remember what they cost but they weren't very expensive. My old batteries weren't holding a charge very well but the new ones seem to last forever.

Does the battery latch actually stay down on this battery?

The Lenmars do. I use them in my 1Ds MkII and 1D MkII N. They have a good seal on them. At first it feels almost too tight, but they actually make a more weatherproof fit that way. The Canon battery fits the same way new.....Rich
