I've been digging into reviews for various wireless shutter releases for various model Canon cameras.
The one thing I find is that most seem to be directional... you have to be in front of the camera. For my use, I'm looking for a wireless shutter release that can be used from any direction; particularly behind the camera. I'm looking to do various types of shots such as family, night shots, etc so I need something with diversity. Range requirements are probably up to around 10ft, which should be plenty capable for most shutter releases. Wireless is absolute; no wired.

Does anyone here have any specific suggestions for a budget (ie: sub-$50) wireless shutter release that would work for the T2I? I bought a cowboy studio wireless shutter release but when I got it in, I realized it won't work with the t2i. *doh!*

Thanks in advance for any help.

- Erin

RF602 wireless triggers. They can do duty as a remote trigger for the camera, or wireless flash trigger. Loook on ebay or amazon

I wasn't aware it served double duty. Thanks for the info.
I purchased a cowboy studio wireless flash setup as well. So, maybe the Canon would serve to replace both?

Jon, thanks for that suggestion as well.

Thats not a canon, its made by YN a company that clone's a lot of canon products. Just make sure you get the version that includes the right cord for your camera.

No, I understand that. I just didn't realize that the Canon one served double duty. All the links I've seen reference it as a remote flash.
I was just saying I had bought 2 separate pieces because I didn't realize there was an all in one solution. That's good to know.

Sorry, guys... I'm having trouble here...

If I purchase a wireless shutter, how can I use it in sync with a remote flash as well? Does the shutter release have to be on the hotshoe on the camera body, or can I attach it via cord and let it dangle, and then attach the remote flash transmitter to the camera body?

I was about to order one from amazon but got really confused as to how I could achieve functionality of both. Just wanted to check here.

I already own a cowboy studio flash trigger/receiver. Do I need to purchase an all in one shutter/flash remote setup to ensure they work together, or will mixing brands cause me any trouble?

for instance, should I buy this whole kit:
http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1295739855&sr=1-7 (external link)

Or can I just buy the shutter and keep my cowboy studio flash setup?... I'm having trouble finding a yongnuo model that is t2i compatible?

your shutter release receiver doesnt have to sit in the hotshoe, its just designed that way for convenience. The set you are looking at from amazon has the ability to serve as a shutter release, and as a flash trigger, not at the same time though. If you use the accessory cord its a shutter release, or place it in the hotshoe it can work as a flash trigger. You should be okay mixing brands unless they somehow end up using the same frequency, but there really isnt anyway to know that in advance. That is to say using the two devices simultaneously.

For a wireless shutter release and a wireless flash trigger you will need 2 x Transmitters and 2 x Receivers, with each on being set to a different frequency. One set will be the wireless shutter release and the other set will be the flash trigger.

If you want a corded shutter release and a wireless flash trigger you would need 1x Transmitter and 2 x receivers, one of which will be the corded shutter release. This leaves the transmitter and the other receiver as the wireless flash trigger.

thanks for the clarification. so, I should be fine to go with a wireless shutter release and just put the two different products on different frequencies and I can then use both products at the same time, correct?

Would the wireless receiver work on older cameras such as a 30V?

It should work if you have compatible plug on the cord. It looks like the 30v uses a C1 connector like the newer Rebels use.

This one (external link) is good.

The Canon T2i was not listed in the compatible models.

Anyone heard of this on by Opteka?

The price reduction looked big. Older model getting clearanced?
