Hi all!

I was looking at digital-picture iso-crop sample images of this lens and I noticed that at 50mm f3.2 looks way better than f2.8.

http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=3&APIComp=1 (external link)

If this is true it means that results could be more pleasing by giving up 1/3 of light (unless its absolutely needed to avoid low shutter speed blur) and a bit of DOF and bokeh when shooting 50mm portraits (which I for example happen to do a lot) in exhange to center and mid frame clarity and contrast.

Its winter here now, with grey days, and its dark by the time I get home from work... so I still need to do some testing myself when I get to it, but what do you guys think, is there a real world difference, or is it just the artificial testing showing differences?

yup. I ran some tests my self and found that at 50mm its slightly soft (still decent though and can be corrected in post easily enough) at f2.8. Knock it down 1/3 of a stop to 3.2 and its very sharp again.

At other focal lengths its sharp wide open.

No PP on any of them. Tough to get a dark sky in downtown Fort Lauderdale!

not if you live in the UK, anything goes wrong with it and Intro 2020 are really bad at support.. go for sigma instead, better support by far!

Just got this lens...and first impression of it is that it is really a schreecher! The sound and focussing pattern is different from the canon 18-55 IS .. Took a couple of pics but didnt come out as clear and sharp as the pics on this topic. I'll see how it goes. Perhaps a learning curve.
