This WAS a cave...LOL! This was a converted gym at one of the casinos in Vegas a few weeks ago. I would have just watched because of the terrible lighting, but I knew my daughter was quitting gymnastics after this meet. :(

Sorry to hear she's quitting Mike. I hope bad coaches aren't running her out. That happens so often on club teams.

No. She told me she was just tired of doing it. She was training for Level 6 and I know she was afraid to do some of the routines. She told me that wasn't the reason, but part of me thinks that may had some thing to do with it. Glad I didn't by that 70-200 f/2.8 lens...LOL!!

You still need the 70-200 F/2.8 for her cheerleading/dance/whatever follows gymnastics. There $2299 reasons to buy a 70-128 2.8 IS USM lens... :)

LOL...she was doing gymnastics and dance, but quit dance last year. At our gym they also have cheerleading, but she doesn't want to do that. I've heard that she is interested in Soccer.

Then I guess you've upgraded from a future 70-200 to a 300 f.2.8 ;)

My daughter took a year off after level 7. I think she was just burnt out. We made a move to a new state and she decided to leave it for a while. She's back doing club and high school gym this year. She started back last year with just HS and decided to go all out this year. Give it time; she may want to come back after a bit. It's a hard sport, as you well know!

Couple from the last one. Light was very uneven throughout the gym.

If she starts Soccer, I can use my 70-200 f/4L or my 300mm f/4L since they'll be in the day time. :)

That's what I'm thinking. Nice captures, BTW.

It's nice to see a wide angle shot amongst all of the typical telephoto shots. Great photo.

Some very good shots. I was one of many photographers for International Gymnast Magazine back in the 80's. I used mostly an 85mm 1.8 lens on a Canon T-90. Used spotmeter on a leg and set exposure manually which was ISO 800 1/250 at f/4 for the entire event.

You are doing good. Keep up the good work.

A question to those using the infamous 85 1.8... do you shoot wide open or stop down a bit for better DOF and/or AF accuracy? I used an 85 1.8 the other weekend for some gymnastics shots and found proper focus on my target areas to be a bit tricky with it wide open.
