Just finished piecing together my first photography website and would like some feedback before purchasing the domain and hosting.

How is wix? Is it free to make one? Im looking to make a new website (only have zenfolio now) how many templates do they have and is it easy to make one? Yours looks pretty good to me.

Ryan,

I'm viewing on a 16X9 monitor and the stadium seats pic is too large to see anything at the bottom. Like the pic, but the important stuff is lost below the image.

That's good to know snyderman, thanks. Wix has a setting where you can modify the resolution, so it's a quick fix.

Wix is pretty awesome actually. They have a lot of templates you can use and it seems to be very user friendly. I can recall several times making the website and saying to myself how easy something was to fix or update. You can setup a free site (which is what I have right now) and then you can upgrade later on if you want. I think the upgrade price is slightly higher than other places, but it's worth it for the tools they give you for a flash site.

Nice site. I must say if I am a client and go to a professional photographers website I would get turned off if I saw it was a free website that anyone could build. You know what I mean? Makes it seam like maybe you don't make enough money to have a real website. I am not at all trying to be rude. I just saw that Wix advertisement at the bottom the second I went there. Maybe upgrade to get rid of the advertisement? If it is a personal website then I don't think it matters at all. Just a thought. I really like the site though except for that. Awesome photos on the site also.

Edit.... Sorry I saw that you wanted help before you bought... sorry my bad... I need to make sure I understand before I comment! :)

Just don't use Flash completely, Flash site are bloated, slow, and annoying. I hate visting someones website and it's in Flash, and it's more annoying when there's a song playing in the background. No one cares about the song, they just want to see your portfolio and that's it.

Try using Squarespace (external link) to get some ideas.

Loads so slowly... I can't really be bothered to wait.

At least the first page needs to load quickly - albums can load slower though.

Yeah, i just sat there for a minute or so and it didnt load so I "x" out.

The design/layout itself looks good, but if I were a possible client you would have just lost me. I recommend something different.

zenfolio is amazing, I highly recommend.
