I just got it yesterday and there are no guarantees I'll not run into problems in the future, but so far everything is working great. I'll update this thread with more info if the problem comes back. I believe it's fixed for good, but you never know!

I got my lens back from Sigma yesterday. As I mentioned before, they said they "replaced the mr sensor". All I can say is that It works PERFECTLY on my 7D now

Good to hear. Still waiting for mine to get here.

Just posted at the lens sample thread, but I'm re posting here:

My first tests with this lens and I'm in love with it. Butter smooth bokeh and SHARP where it needs to be sharp. Purple fringing at 1.4 is so controlled that it makes my Canon 1.8 look really bad wide open. So much so that I'm thinking about selling my Canon 1.8 soon... and I love that lens. After it came back from Sigma I had absolutely no problem with the AF whatsoever.

Skull Leader! Thanks for the shots Antropus! I'll be purchasing a copy of the Sigma 85 this week. Hopefully I get a copy without any of the focus issues.

I had to send my copy in last Friday for the same problem. Sigma received it Monday and we'll see how long it takes to get back to me. I so want to love this lens. Hopefully it comes back perfect.

I just received this lens yesterday. First attempt to focus on my friend, I got the "machine gun"/"seizure" erratic focus attempt. Very disappointing! I was looking forward to taking pictures of it.

I am still at the office but my copy arrived at home today. I will have to pick it up at the post office tomorrow. Over the next few days I will give it a workout and post some comments.

I hope my copy works as I purchased it to replace a Canon 100mm f2.0 that has developed the "machine gun" / can't focus issue.

OP

You have a defective lens. My first one did exactly that right out of the box. B&H sent me another one and its been flawless. Sigma 85 1.4 is best in its class-----IF--- And that can be a BIG IF--- you get a good copy.

I was willing to take the chance over the 85L from canon. Tested both side by side. Virtually no difference in image quality, Sigma faster on AF.

here is DPP Review with pics. I got same results. Cant beat the sigma especially at its price point.
