I am trying to determine actuation count for 1Ds 2 from raw (*.cr2) file.
in adobe photoshop, i can use file-> file info to get this info from
raw file in a line [aux:ImageNumber:36578]. i assume this is about 36k
actuations. however, when i use 1Dcount I got a difference number. for
this case i get over 100k. of cause i also get a something like:
Raw tag data in hex: 1c18a280000000000. I don't know which one to
believe. anyone has answer for the question or have a better method
to determine the number

The photoshop ImageNumber goes up to 65536, and then starts counting again. I bet 1Dcount gives you 65536+36578 = 102114. 1Dcount is correct.

You cannnot reliably determine the shutter count on the 1DII series. Any settings copied from one camera to another copies the shutter count over also.

exactly. in abobe i got 36368 and in 1Dcount i got 100904

36368 + 65536 = 100904

Thanks a lot, this is why I have seen so many low actuation counts 1Ds 2 in ebay
buyer beware.

this is great information. every one is in the market for 1Ds 2 should know it.

however, this time sheawyatt nailed it. at least if you got 65536*n + AN = 1DN

AN = abobe image number;
1DN = 1Dcount number;

then you might get a right actuation number

Now try copying the setting from another 1-series, and see what you get. :)

how do you copy the settings from one to another? is anyone can confirm this? does this mean that
anyone can fake 1Ds 2 actuations if he knew how to do it and want to do it?

Yes. And it is very easy to do. Save settings on card. Put that card on second body. Use saved settings from card. Your second body will have same shutter count as first body. The only reliable way to check shutter count is to send it to Canon.
